The latest addition to the Audi Sportback range, the A5, has crossed several oceans and seas and is now available in Australia as well, with prices starting from AU$78,400 for the 2.0 TFSI and going as high as AU$89,100 for the 3.0 TDI model.

It seems that once again Audi has managed to successfully combine conflicting traits – blending emotional design with a car that is functional in terms of space, even offering a very large rear tailgate for ease of access. It looks beautiful. It drives very well. It is a great car for a family, for everyday use and I believe it will sell very well Downunder,” Joerg Hofmann, Audi managing director said.

“It will be our volume-selling model in the A5 segment and will make a significant contribution to our sixth record year of sales in 2010.”

As said, the Australian version of the A5 Sportback will come in only tow engine choices, 2.0 TFSI and 3.0 TDI, both with quattro all-wheel-drive and S tronic as standard.

The 2.0 TFSI develops 155kW of power and 350Nm of torque, available from 1,500 – 4,200 rpm and gets from naught to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. Fuel consumption rating for the engine is 7.5l/100 km.

The more powerful 3.0 TDI develops 176kW of power and 500Nm of torque between 1,500 – 3,000 rpm, allowing for an acceleration time of 6.1 seconds, while at the same time eating up to 6.6l of fuel/100 km.
