It has long been in the news but up until now, nobody provided a reliable launch date for Apple’s future car. Well, the latest info coming from The Wall Street Journal claims that the Cupertino-based IT giant is going to unveil its first ever vehicle in 2019.
The target seems realistic considering that the company founded by Steve Jobs is still recruiting specialists from all areas of the auto industry. Furthermore, new battery technology is expected in the near future if we’re to believe the big players on the market.

Initial rumors claimed that the car Apple is working on will be a proper competitor for Google’s self-driving model, taking the rivalry between the two giants to whole new areas and heights. However, the same report claims that the car developed in Cupertino will not be completely autonomous.

Of course, self-driving features will be included most likely, such as driving and parking assistants but as far as driving down the road without someone behind the wheel goes, we need to lower our expectations.

The team developing the whole project (codenamed Project Titan) now has the funds required to grow from 600 people to 1,800 to make sure everything goes well.

Speaking of the team behind the new car, sources claim that they have expressed skepticism towards this ambitious launch date, four years seeming like a short period of time for such a big project.

As a matter of fact, being the first time the company is working on a vehicle, most people in the industry think this the timeframe is not for when we’re going to see the final product but for when the engineers will sign off on the main features of the product. Therefore, 2020 seems like a more plausible target.

Even so, considering the success the Apple brand is enjoying these days, being the most valuable company in the world and the first in history to be evaluated at $700 billion, we’re in for a really interesting take on the entire concept of an ‘automobile’.
