Similar to what the luxury timepieces fair Baselworld is for automakers, the world’s leading furniture design exposition in Milan, Italy is also a way car companies can promote their new models. Instead of creating new watches inspired by autos, however, car manufacturers usually ask their designers to break free and create non-automotive objects. Here’s what Ford managed to come up with.
Taking their inspiration from the all-new Ford GT supercar, Ford designers created a racing sailboat, guitar, foosball table and several other objects that will all be on display at the Salone del Mobile. The automotive company claims the range of objects takes inspiration from the GT’s interior.

We have an incredible amount of talent in our global design studios. Salone del Mobile is the perfect forum to share some of that creativity, while also offering our designers an opportunity to get exposure to new ideas that will inspire future Ford design,” said Moray Callum, Ford Motor Company vice president for design.

And what exactly are these specifics, you ask? Well, they claim it has something to do with the clarity of intent, innovation, and connection. You can read more about these in the press release we listed below.

Other objects Ford’s global designers created include a suspended light, a Wi-Fi speaker and two different interpretations for lounge furniture. Each object applies a similar design solution to form a recognizable portfolio.

Ford is into art too

Nevertheless, it’s not just everyday objects Ford is bringing at the event, as the company also took a step or two into the art world. Called “Favilla, Every Light a Voice,” the immersive installation unfolds inside two large boxes. The first examines the science of light amid dazzling, reflective show. The second box is curated by Ford’s in-house animation studio to offer visitors a unique, engaging product experience that showcases how they design shapes both form and function.

For further details, there’s also a video the company released. And don’t forget to pass by the Ford Design Lounge, that is if you’re in Milano starting today through April 19th, when the fair is going to end.
