Remember the GSX-S1000 spy shots we ran not a long time ago? Suzuki has finally launched this naked machine, but accompanied by a faired version dubbed the GSX-S1000F. On the tech side, both bikes are identical, but their bodywork addresses different types of riders.
These new Hamamatsu creations are powered by tweaked version of the 2008 GSX-R1000 in-line four, 999cc engine, obviously tuned for a better power and torque deployment without having to rev it all the way up and thus being much more useable in the urban environment. Suzuki has invested in delivering a power unit that suited streets better, with new, lighter forged pistons and revised camshaft timing for a more tamed response.

The “old” engine sits in a new aluminium frame equipped with a swingarm derived straight from the one that can be found on the current liter-class Gixxer, with adjustable upside-down KYB forks and a rear monoshock show damping and spring preload are also tweakeable.

With a seat as low as 815mm (32.1”) from the ground, Suzuki says this is one of the lowest liter-class machines, while the narrow, tapered rear section of the fuel tank allows riders to effortlessly reach the ground. The GSX-S1000F is somewhat included in the sport-touring segment, but most likely only because of its de-tuned engine. As for the skimpy radiator shrouds of the GSX-S1000 and the lack of a windscreen, this bike is obviously a treat for those who don’t mind the 100mph (160 km/h) wind in their face. Prices and tech specs to follow.
