A fully production-ready Fiat 500X prototype was recently spied by our men with long camera lenses as it was undergoing testing. Essentially, this new member of the 500 family is the Italian version of the Jeep Renegade with different styling and a more European design.
Heavy black camouflage is covering this prototype from head to toe, but we already know what the 500X looks like. A fully built mockup was photographed a few years back, way before Jeep's version had started testing. It's a well rounded, handsome looking crossover, though the connection to the 500 name is somewhat lost on us.
Some have suggested engine range will be identical to that of the Renegade, since the two are platform brothers. However, we doubt a 2.4-liter engine in a compact car would sell well in Italy, which is still the main European market for Fiats.
Instead, more compact and efficient mills are going to be used, all borrowed from the 500L. Here's what we think is going to be under the bonnet:

- 1.4-liter base engine with 95 PS, 127 Nm of torque and a 6-speed manual
- 1.4 MultiAir turbo with 120 hp, also available as a compressed natural gas engine.
- 0.9 Twin Air two-cylinder with 105 hp
- 1.3 MultiJet diesel with 85 PS and 200 Nm of torque
- 1.6 MultiJet diesel with 105 PS and 320 Nm of torque
