A rather muted soundtrack. This is what the occupants of the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur perceive. The 617 hp (625 PS) may make this the most powerful four-door to have ever worn the Bentley emblem, but the vehicle can not be bothered.
With its predecessor, the Continental Flying Spur, Bentley wanted to go the “four-door Conti GT” way, so they pushed the balance towards the sporty side. Now Crewe wants to give the car its own identity, so they’ve removed the “Continental” part of its designation.

With this moniker gone, the engineers were forced to tweak the overall setup. We were expecting a perfectly balanced approach, but we found the same amount of bias as before, except this time it is pointing at comfort.

If you ask Crewe’s design team, they’ll tell you that almost everything has changed. Nonetheless, take a look at the Flying Spur and you will disagree with them. Bentley may market this as a new generation of their more dynamic sedan offering, but we are actually talking about a revamp, albeit a very, very comprehensive one.

It does not take too much effort to open or close the door and yet the latter operation makes you think about Switzerland’s favorite time passing - listening to a vault door closing.

Up front the changes are hard to notice, with the rear seat area receiving more attention. The main highlight is the new Touch Screen Remote. This looks and feels similar to a smartphone, with the big kahunas in the back being able to use it for controlling most of the car’s functions - those that affect the driving are obviously off the list.

As always with Bentley, the veneer and leather work are impressive. The best part about this is the manner in which the wood pattern on the dashboard is continued onto the doors.

The world looks different from behind the double-pan windows of the Flying Spur and yet the car has its fair share of flaws. Do these outweigh its lavish assets? Find out in our 2014 Bentley Flying Spur review.
