Somehow, when people mention open-air motoring, they expect all sorts of associations. From super-performance, to ultimate luxury, or, on the contrary, budget stuff. Well, the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet proves that open-top driving can also be a complete, balanced experience. This makes up the best part of the car.
We really can’t think of a better cabriolet, at least not without having to spend a fortune on it. Speaking of the financial side, the E-Class Cabrio starts at $60,200 for the E350 or $67,300 for the E550. In Europe, the engine range is much wider also including diesels.
Thus, the starting prices range from EUR 48,790 and EUR75,327 - the prices include 20 percent VAT. The complete package offered by the car earns it an eight in the value-for-money department.
Even if we are to compare the 2014 E-Class Cabrio with much more expensive vehicles like the
Bentley Continental GTC, it still finds a way to shine. This is probably the... most cabriolet car we can name. For instance, while the roof is up there with the Bentley’s one, the draught protection when the top is stowed proves superior in the Mercedes.
Refinement is the word that defines the time spent inside the 2014 Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet. The major revamp has given the car a considerable boost, it’s more than just a pretty face and some extra muscle.
Alas, the facelift could only do so much for the cabin, which remains the worst side of the E-Class. This just doesn’t live up to the rest of the package.
It also couldn’t change the driving experience too much. Nonetheless, the E-Class Cabrio provides a smooth, linear drive. The only thing missing is the part with the sensations.
Mercedes could’ve solved this by sending the car over to Affalterbach. Well, they denied the E-Class Convertible the right to a proper
AMG treatment. We see the Convertible as some sort of a collateral victim. They couldn’t make an E63 AMG incarnation simply because the E-Class Coupe doesn’t have one.
As for the E63 AMG Coupe, this didn’t happen because it would’ve hurt the sales of the C63 AMG Coupe, whom it shares its wheelbase value with.
They say premium cars may bring you the “lonely at the top” feeling. Well, the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet is all about being able to share the wonderful top-down times.
