Returning to the rear, the seat is comfy and the overall feeling, even with the top stowed, is one of protection. And when the roof is up, there's still enough space around you - we were particularly fond of the solid sound made by the rear windscreen section being put into place.
With the roof up, you can still see the cover under the erected rear window. A nice touch of elegance. Alas, this turn into a bit of an issue when driving in the sun - the light reflecting in the metal can make using the rear window difficult.
Mercedes' E-Class Cabriolet reinforces its four-passenger accommodation with a generous boot for its class. Push the button on the key and the lid lifts to reveal 13.8 cubic feet (390 liters). Here's a value that top that of a
Bentley Continental GT... Coupe. Even with the roof down, you still get 10.6 cubic feet (300 liters).
We won't be testing this right now, as we're busy with the bird's eye view camera system. Mercedes' implementation is superior to what BMW has to offer. To put it shortly, it's a doll inside the city.
You never really get to feel a desperate need for it though. That's thanks to the visibility - the front and side one is good, while the rear one is decent.
Furthermore, the tech side of the car is there to offer a nice urban drive. The car feels agile enough, mainly thanks to the Direct-Steer system. 2.3 turns from lock to lock is enough said on urban roads.
In fact, all the elements of the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet add up, making these one of the best open-tops to drive around the city. You've got a balanced mixed between protection, dynamics, practicality and a premium feel. Ease of use comes as an extra topping.
This relaxed driving atmosphere is what you’ll treasure the most when taking the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet out on the open road.
Like we said, the 2014 E-Class Cabriolet has done its homework, as well as some extra stuff, when it came to draught fighting. Despite knowing all this, we were still not prepared for how good this car is at making you forget you’ve dropped the top.
