Zipcar App, Available on App Store

Car sharing company Zipcar announced today that the Zipcar App for iPhone and iPod is now available on the App Store. By using the program, customers can find and reserve Zipcar vehicles all over the world. The application also allows users to choose the car, the time for the reservation and even honk the horn remotely to find the car, unlock and lock the vehicle with their iPhone or iPod touch.

"Like so many urban dwellers today, more than 25 percent of Zipcar members live their life from their iPhones," Scott Griffith, Zipcar CEO said when announcing the programs' availability. "The new Zipcar App is a simple, fun and self-service technology that now allows millions of iPhone and iPod touch users to have on-the-go access to Zipcars around the globe."

Below is a list of the App's features:

  • find available Zipcars on a map using the current location, a favorite location, or any location
  • reserve a Zipcar
  • sort cars by time available, car type and model
  • vew upcoming reservations
  • get directions to the Zipcar
  • locate the reserved Zipcar by honking the horn
  • tap to contact Zipcar if help is needed during a reservation
  • extend or cancel reservations

The Zipcar App has been announced since June, when it was presented at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). It is in fact an improvement to the Zipcar widget on the WHERE app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Zipcar App is available for free by following this link (the App requires iPhone OS 3.0).
