The Xebra is an all-electric three-wheeled EV produced between 2006 and 2009, by Santa Rosa, California-based ZAP, a name which stands for ‘zero air pollution’ - a rather witty name for a company with a vehicle called ‘Dude’ in its line-up. A few hundred were sold in the US and they were appreciated and used by people who lived in gated communities and needed a small EV to get around, as an actual car would have been 'overkill'.
Back in 2009, the National Highway Traffic Society (NHTSA) announced that the Xebra needed to be recalled due to it recording sub-par braking distances. The vehicles were recalled and the problem was reportedly fixed, though it seems that it really wasn't fixed at all.
Apparently, now, some 3 years later, Xebras have been re-recalled as the problem wasn’t fixed on the first recall, strangely enough. So, if you are the lucky owner of one of these ‘EV Reliant Robins’, check out the NHTSA website for full details on the recall.
