YouTube, Best Buy Linked with US F1 Sponsorship

The rumors about YouTube considering Formula One sponsorship in the near future has made the headlines once again in the US. Well, maybe we pushed it a little bit with the “headlines” part, but the report coming from TechCrunch sure sounds like a top-rated piece of information for all Formula One fans, not only the ones in North America.

According to an article appeared on TechCrunch.com, it seems the representatives of the US Grand Prix Engineering (formerly known as USF1) had an informal meeting with YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley at the Fuse Capital offices in Palo Alto. Hurley was not the only high-profile investor present at the meeting, as he was also joined by some execs from Best Buy, the largest specialty retailer of consumer electronics in the United States.

In addition, Best Buy Chief Marketing Officer Barry Judge revealed, via his Twitter page, that Hurley is the “big investor” behind US GPE's operations. However, it is not clear if he'll invest privately in the project or bring his company as official (title) sponsor of the Charlotted (N.C.) based team.

Also, according to the initial report on TechCrunch.com, it seems Best Buy are also interested in pumping money into the project, one way or the other.

Again, all of these are speculations, but it's not like either Peter Windsor or Ken Anderson – part owners of US GPE – denied it in the past few months. When initially asked about the possibility of joining efforts with Hurley for their F1 debut (in early July) Windsor said “people have tied him to our team, which is incredibly flattering, and who knows?”
