I guess it won’t be long until we’ll use virtual reality goggles to shape exactly what we need, then send the info to our personal 3D printer and watch how it gets created right in front of our eyes. But until then you can try Yamaha’s new 3D app that lets you customize and see your future bike before placing an order.
Yamaha has just released a new app for its Sports Touring range of bikes which lets you customize and compare the models before going to a dealership to get the one you dream of. The app is part of Yamaha’s My Garage app suite, joining the rest of the range like the Supersport app, Sport Heritage, MT and even Sport Scooters.
How does it work? Well, if you’ve ever played racing video games that let you customize your ride, the app available on both iOS and Android lets you do exactly the same. Using a clean and simple interface, you can choose your model and then browse through different available colors, luggage systems, exhausts, windshields, rims, protections and other small accessories.
Finished equipping your bike with the stuff you need? Great! Now you can check it out from each angle, zoom in, zoom out, take a pic and even apply photo filters. Happy with the result? The app will let you share your creations as well as automatically calculate the total build cost.
Then it will also redirect you to your local Yamaha dealership to confirm and place your order eventually, making things easier and spare the staff there the ordeal of explaining which accessories work for each model.
Looks like the days of the brochures are soon to be over... And I’m not talking about printed ones because I haven’t touched one in years. The eco-friendly PDF ones are starting to show less and fewer specifications nowadays and will soon be replaced by 3D configurators like the one mentioned here.
