World’s First Stretched Jaguar E-Type On Its Way

The best-looking of the entire Jaguar E-Type family is the Series I, the car which embodied the best of what the 1960s had to offer in terms of design. However, in the quest for the perfect body shape, some other aspects were neglected in the development and building of the car.
The primary concern was interior space, as well as practicality, two issues which were solved with the subsequent launches of the Series II and Series III V12. However, the two latter series lost some of the design appeal and flair that the first car had. Now, a E-Type owner from the US has set out to create ‘the Kaizen’ - a stretched version of the orginal Series I car.

Kaizen is a Japanese word, and it means “understand the imperative to make continuous improvements and then get to work.” Paul Branstad, the car’s owner said: “The stretched E-Type I have conceived sits between the Series I and the subsequent vehicles produced after the merger and formation of British Leyland, when the design of the cars underwent several transformations as a consequence of cuts in production costs and the need for more space that resulted in the Series II 2+2 and Series III V12” - the man really knows his Jags.

The car will receive a 4.5-inch (11 cm) stretch in the middle of the floorpan, freeing up the necessary room, while also giving this particular E-Type a special allure, as Branstad said: “By adding four and a half inches to the length of the car we will be able to retain the overall look of the Series 1 and also turn this E-Type into a unique car.”(

Another alteration which will be made to the car is the raising of the roofline by 1.25 inches (3 cm), while also lowering the boot floor at the same time, in order to fit a new and larger fuel tank. The car will also get a range of upgrades, from Classic Motor Cars Limited of Bridgnorth, the UK, including air-con, power steering, new brakes, five-speed gearbox, as well as modernized suspension and handling components.
