Williams Disappointed with Non-European Season

Williams F1 team has so far scored only 3.5 points in the constructors' classification, after the first 4 races of the season. Considering the high hopes the Grove-based team have put into their 2009 package, that performance could easily be described as disappointing.

If we are also to take into consideration the fact the Williams F1 was part of the “diffuser three” using performance-enhancing rear diffusers for the first few rounds of the 2009 calendar, the scoring percentage after the first 4 races is no good news for Sam Michael & Co.

Heading to Europe for the Spanish Grand Prix on May 8, Wiliams will look to turn their luck 180 degrees and begin challenging for points more often. As announced by Michael, the team will have the sole aim of turning their great pace in the practice sessions – the Williams duo have so far dominated the Friday action in 2009 – into good grid positioning and strong performance in the race.

We didn't leave Bahrain in the position where we needed to be. We've only accumulated 3.5 points from four races this season and we need to improve upon that going into the European rounds if we're going to stay in the game. It's clear from this weekend's grand prix that we definitely need to perform better in qualifying and to assist the drivers going into the first corner, among other things,” admitted the Williams technical head after the Sakhir race.

With several teams updating their package for the European rounds, Williams are also expected to introduce a new aerodynamic kit for the Barcelona race, although no official information on that has yet been disclosed by Michael.
