Can you imagine a world where Cadillac doesn’t top its range with large sedans? That’s right, nobody is able to do that, especially not when spy photographers have shot an upcoming flagship model on multiple occasions. Since the prototypes have a lot of miles to swallow until the development is complete, we’ve decided to bring you a rendering of the future Daddy Caddy.
The future flagship has already been confirmed, but when it comes to its designation, this is still surrounded by an aura of mystery. The expected designation so far was LTS, but Cadillac will probably come up with a different moniker for the car. In case you haven’t noticed, the brand needs to go back to the drawing naming board, as its range no longer follows a single naming line. The company will most will asses this, so at the moment we really can’t tell how the flagship will be called.

Cadillac dropped a styling hint on the matter last year with the Elmiraj Concept. While that was strictly a two-door coupe, many believe the upcoming flasghip will follow suit by arriving in a four-door coupe form. We highly doubt that - the luxury segment isn’t a place to sacrifice headroom, while the spyshots have confirmed this, in spite of the heavy camo. Speaking of space, the rear legroom abundance is a tradition for Cadillac, so expect the car to be the segment leader here.

The competition is fierce

We know for a fact that Cadillac’s enemy for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series will come with plenty of technology. While the largest sedan in Cadillac’s current line-up, the XTS, can already brag about that, the future model will take the game to a whole new level. For instance, the thing will boast what GM calls Super Cruise.

We are talking about autonomous driving technology, so lane following, as well as speed control are included. Mercedes already has prototypes that can drive 100 percent autonomously, so the competition in this area is tough. The tricky part here concerns Cadillac’s CUE entertainment system, as its capacitive touch buttons need some time getting used to and may never provide a pleasant experience for certain users.

The Elmiraj was powered by a twin-turbo V8, but we’re not sure whether this will make it under the future sedan’s bonnet. In the transmission department, we’ll find either a nine- or a ten-speed automatic.

The sedan is expected to arrive next year. GM will build Cadillac’s flagship at the Detroit-Hamtranck plant and, after a decade of anticipation, we can’t wait to see what the brand has to throw at the Germans.
