This is big, ladies and gentlemen! Cadillac has finally made the announcement we've been so eagerly anticipating for a few months now: the as-yet unnamed range-topping Cadillac luxury sedan will go into production in the fourth quarter of 2015 at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan.
Woooop! Now that's more like it, Caddy! An all-new flagship model was due for a very long time now. It's not like the XTS isn't Cadillac enough, but for the most luxurious auto brand in the United States, the XTS just doesn't cut the mustard. “The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars,” has disclosed Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen.

Our spy photographers spotted the LTS or whatever the thing is called in prototype guise a few time now, but the thing is still “in development… this new rear wheel drive-oriented sedan uses completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture. In addition to new technology in the car itself, we are instituting innovative manufacturing techniques…" the Cadillac big guy further added.

The American automaker also disclosed that $384 million will be invested at Detroit-Hamtramck for body shop tooling, new equipment and "additional plant upgrades to build the next generation Chevrolet Volt and two future products." As such, we know two of the models: the second generation Chevy Volt and this yet-unnamed Caddy flagship. But what about the third, mysterious nameplate?

Well, we have a sneaking suspicion about that and we might be right on the money here. Last month, Cadillac chief engineer Dave Leone suggested that a convertible model is also in the works. If you take into consideration that Caddy's last convertible was the XLR, which is out of production for 5 years now, then yeah, we're pretty sure that third model will be a convertible. Oh, how we wish it to be a drop-top CTS-V, but who knows that the future actually holds.
