Like any big shot auto manufacturer, GM has a joint venture in the world's biggest automobile market. Shanghai GM also makes the Cadillac XTS in China, but some of the production run is prone to develop a brake control module software glitch according to the Asian country's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Shanghai General Motors, GM's venture with local company SAIC Motor, is recalling some 38,328 Cadillac XTS luxury sedans over the brake control module software flaw identified by China's quality watchdog. An official statement informs that those 38k Cadillac vehicles have been assembled by Shanghai GM from October 2012 to July 2014.

According to the document published on China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine website, the defect might cause acceleration problems when the driver tries to set off from a standstill, but it would be pretty nasty if the brakes went crazy at highway speeds.

Unfortunately, Shanghai General Motors hasn't offered detailed information about the fault as of yet, but still, we advise owners of affected cars to ring their nearest Caddy dealership and schedule a visit to the service department to fix the issue. This relatively minor General Motors recall comes just a few days after Ford China recalled 191,770 Focus sedans and hatchbacks for potential fuel leaks.
