Why Overtaking on the Right Is Such a Bad Idea

Most of the world`s countries have chosen to drive on the right-hand side of the road, and overtaking is done on the left side only, for reasons of safety. In countries where they like driving on the left side, overtaking is done on the right, and everything is basically the same, only mirrored.
On the highway, it is of paramount importance to only overtake on the correct side, and in the case of this video from Taiwan, it is the the left side. The Volkswagen CC, or Passat CC, can be seen speeding on the emergency lane (the one furthest on the right), following another speeding car.

However, what neither driver seems to realise is that the emergency, or hard shoulder, is often used by drivers whose cars are experiencing some sort of technical difficulty - these drivers stop on the lane, and examine their cars, in order to figure out what to do next.

One such driver was stationed on the aforementioned lane, and the car gets hit full-on, by the CC, which ricochets back onto the highway with disastrous consequences.

The moral behind this story/video is to always take the necessary time and precautions to do a proper overtaking manoeuvre - always on the correct side!
