What 230 KM/H in a Peugeot 208 GTi Looks Like

Some have already labeled the Ford Fiesta ST as the ideal supermini hot hatch around because it's fun, honest and cheap. But we like to keep an oven mind, since not all buyers want the same thing.
If a more refined and classy supermini hot hatch is what you're after, you're probably looking at a MINI Cooper S. But why not go for something with that certain French je ne sais quoi and that still has motorsport and heritage? The Peugeot 208 GTi comes from a long line of fun cars that were followed by two failed models based on the 206 and 207, which kind of makes this a blank slate.

The 208 GTi looks sexy from every angle, covered in chrome and subtle design details. Inside, you're greeted by a small flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, a large display mounted high on the dash and bright red dials.

We know it looks good, but is it fast? Turns out the answer to that question is a resounding "yes". This next video was recently shot by the Czech magazine Autoforum, who pushed the 208 GTi to its limit, reaching 220 km/h on a normal section of the road and over 230 km/h while going downhill.

Official numbers claim the Peugeot will reach 100 km/h in only 6.8 seconds, thanks to a 1.6-liter turbo producing 200 PS and 275 Nm of torque. Basically, this small car that's the size of a shoe is just as fast as a Mk5 Golf GTI from some years ago. Impressive stuff from the same French company that only recently launched boring cars like the 5008, 107 and 301.
