Webber Reckons Alonso Is Still a Threat in 2010

Although Sebastian Vettel sees a two-way battle for the championship title this season between Red Bull and McLaren, his more experienced teammate Mark Webber begs to differ. The 33-year old Aussie believed Ferrari can easily be thrown into the mix, as they have showed everyone that they can be competitive week in and week out.

While the championship is currently being headed by the two McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, Vettel and Webber are riding their tails, with all 4 drivers separated by a single race win. Ferrari's best placed driver Fernando Alonso is only 5th overall, sitting some 29 points behind Hamilton.

Nevertheless, considering that there are still 10 races to go – mid point of the 2010 campaign hasn't been reached yet – Webber admitted that he is not writing off Alonso or Ferrari for the world title.

Ferrari, you can still never discount them. They are a very, very strong team. Fernando is a very solid driver so those guys will be there week in, week out as well,” said Webber in a recent interview with the BBC.

It is a sensational battle. I am enjoying it, and there are many drivers that can win races. A lot of us are on a couple of victories each, and it would be nice to be the first driver to get on to three and four - and get a bit of momentum. It is a good fight,” added the Red Bull driver.

As far as the constructors' fight goes, Ferrari is way out of the battle for 1st place, as the Scuderia sits no less than 83 points behind McLaren Mercedes in the overall classification, in 3rd place. While Alonso has as good of a chance as the other Top 4 drivers in front of him to conquer the world title, his teammate Felipe Massa is struggling in 8th place, 31 points behind the Spaniard.
