Webber Never Thought of Leaving Red Bull

Mark Webber seems to have gotten over his personal dispute with the Red Bull Racing team. Throughout the 2010 Formula One season – beginning with the Turkish Grand Prix, to be more precise – Webber and Red Bull did not see eye to eye, as the Austrian team looked quite obvious in their attempt to favor Sebastian Vettel for the world title.

The first episode, as you all remember, happened in Istanbul, where his teammate Sebastian Vettel tried to pass him for first place and bumped into his car in the process. While every sane F1 fan out there saw that the German driver was the only one to blame for the incident – which sent Webber to 3rd place and Vettel out of the race – the entire Red Bull organization saw things differently, criticizing Webber's defending move.

A few races later, in Great Britain, Mark Webber was supposed to benefit from a new-spec front wing, yet the team decided only hours before the qualifying session on Saturday to take the wing from Webber and fit it onto Vettel's car. After the race, eventually won by the Australian driver, he voiced his frustrations on Red Bull's policy. Luckily for him, he had already signed a contract extension a few weeks back.

Despite all this, Webber now says there was never a moment in 2010 when he thought about leaving the Milton Keynes based team.

I knew as a team we could go through growing pains this year and go forward from it. It never went through my mind that I needed to go somewhere else,” he said in a recent interview with BBC Radio.

And, while everybody assumes 2011 will be Webber's last with the Austrian team, the 34-year old racer insisted time will tell whether his F1 career will continue with Red Bull or elsewhere.

I will take each year as it comes. Contract time always comes around, and you're either wanted or you're not. Let's see what happens in 2012. I still need to want to do it. What's really important is that you finish on top of your game,” added Webber, hinting that retirement is also a possibility, should he lose his desire to race in F1.
