Webber Insists He's Not Number 1 for Red Bull

Although there are 7 grands prix left to play and a massive 18.5 point difference between him and championship leader Jenson Button, Australian Mark Webber insisted that his podium in Hungary will not attract the “No 1 driver” status within the Red Bull Racing team.

The 32-year old Aussie has recuperated no less than 15 points to Button in only 3 races, while also making 5 podium appearances (one of which was a win, at the Nurburgring) in his last 6 starts. Vettel, on the other hand, recorded his fourth DNF of the season at the Hungaroring and is now relegated to 3rd place in the standings, 4.5 points behind his teammate.

Although his form in 2009 has been far more constant that Vettel's, Webber insisted it would be too early to discuss team strategy in the championship.

No, I think it is still a bit early,” answered Webber when asked if he considers Red Bull should start picking favorites for the late stages of 2009. “Sebastian had a bit of a tough weekend but he will be back and after the break we can recharge and take the fight again,” added the fair-play Aussie.

Red Bull's team boss Christian Horner also avoided to nominate one of his two drivers for the championship fight, as the RBR duo is still one race of a distance from each other in the standings. Nevertheless, Vettel is now under pressure to perform at the upcoming European Grand Prix at Valencia, as another point-deficit run towards Webber in Spain might solve the Red Bull equation for the remaining 6 rounds of the 2009 season.
