Webber Hopes Rain Will Spice Things Up in Australia

Mark Webber did not hold back from criticizing the new format of Formula One racing following the “boring” Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend. While putting the emphasis on refueling ban and, consequently, a single pit stop during the race, the racing lacked overtaking completely inside the Top 10, argued Webber.

Additionally, the high temperatures in Bahrain made it difficult for the engines to work at full speed, with the Ferrari and Renault powerplants being the most affected by the hot weather.

Red Bull's Mark Webber did not make the most out of the season opening round, but the Aussie is eager to return to the track for his home grand prix and change things around in the classification. Apart from the immense support from the fans that will be present in Melbourne's Albert Park, Webbers expects weather to again play a great role two weekends from now.

Bahrain is normally a very good track for racing and didn't turn out as good as we would have liked, but hopefully there's a nice surprise in Melbourne. We know the weather here can be very changeable, so lots of things can change very quickly,” said the Australian driver, hinting that he'd like for the rain to pour down the F1 field during the Melbourne race.

Rain would most likely spice things up on the track, but a major problem could appear if the weather on Sunday is different as compared to the one during the Saturday qualifying. And that's because according to the new FIA rulebook, the cars that have qualified for Q3 will have to use the same exact set of tires in the first stint of the race also.

As revealed by the ruling body, a normal and decent decision on this topic will be taken in due time.
