Cosworth Happy with Bahrain Performance

After the first round of the 2010 Formula One Championship, many were expecting to see the Cosworth powered cars to struggle against the already established engine manufacturers in the series. However, there was hardly any negative media coverage on the CA2010 unit's performance in Bahrain, as compared to other teams like Ferrari or Renault.

Although not fighting for the top spots in the race, the Cosworth powered teams did not make fouls out of themselves, with Williams scoring one points through Rubens Barrichello and newly entrants Lotus managing to reach the finish line with both its drivers. As far as HRT F1 and Virgin Racing are concerned, their failure to cross the finish line was not related to engine failure.

On the other hand, Ferrari already proceeded to two engine changes prior to the race – replacing the powerplants of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa – while Sebastian Vettel's Renault-powered RB6 suffered from engine failure in the second part of the race.

It was satisfying to see all four of our teams in action and to witness the three new teams enjoy their Formula 1 debuts. From an engine performance point of view, I think we can be very satisfied with the performance of the CA2010 in Bahrain with both Williams drivers finishing the race with Rubens picking up a championship point for tenth,” said Cosworth's general manager Mark Gallagher.

Additionally, the Cosworth manager revealed that the data gathered following the hot Bahrain race will be valuable for the further development of their powerplants for the races to come.

We have accumulated a lot of track data from Bahrain, a circuit that is quite demanding on the engine, and this will be thoroughly examined and analysed by our team of engineers back in Northampton. Overall, it has been a solid start to Cosworth's 2010 season, in terms of engine performance and reliability,” added Gallagher.
