Webber Denies New F1 Kids Are "Real Men"

Following some recent statements issued by Mark Webber ahead of the upcoming Formula One season, one could assume that there is a bit of tension between the two Red Bull Racing drivers – the Aussie and Sebastian Vettel. The 33-year old racer yesterday spoke openly about the younger talents that make it into F1, revealing that he doesn't quite consider them “real men.”

You don't look at these guys and think 'they are real men'. They are talented, no question, but there is less in common,” said Webber in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

There is power steering now; a lot of things that make the cars easier to drive. That's why these youngsters can get away with it. I came through the categories with gear sticks and what have you. And that was beneficial for me. But there is no point whingeing about it. They come along and do a good job for the most part. Some don't,” added the Australian driver.

Every now and again - whether it's a Lewis Hamilton or a Sebastian Vettel - they can come in and do a good job.

This is not the first time Webber refers to the “new kinds on the block” topic in Formula One, as some of his previous experiences actually concern his very teammate. Back in 2008, when the two were driving for different teams, they collided during the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji. As the accident was mainly Vettel's fault, Webber had no problem coming to the reporters and saying that the German is nothing but one of the “kids” who “do a good job and then f--k it all up”.

During last season, when the two were head to head in the championship fight for most of the time, several rumors also suggested that their relationship inside the Red Bull garage was somewhat shaky. Confronted with the same allegations now, once Webber opened his mouth on the subject again, Vettel insisted he and his teammate get along just fine.

You know Mark, he is not afraid of saying what he thinks. Of course I want to beat him every time, and he wants to beat me, but we get along well,” said Vettel in an interview with The Guardian.
