Webber Aiming for 2010 Title

Mark Webber insisted that his only aim for the upcoming season is to become world champion. Although all the high-rated drivers will be racing even higher-rated cars next year – as Ferrari and McLaren will hopefully bounce back from their disappointing season this year – Webber's two wins this season (so far) has made him more hopeful for next season.

Reigning champion Jenson Button will be driving the title winning Brawn machinery, Alonso will be in a Ferrari, Hamilton and Raikkonen will probably team up at McLaren and Vettel will surely want to improve himself in the other Red Bull. That's what Webber is looking at in 2010, yet he knows that only winning the championship will keep him at Milton Keynes for another season or two.

The 33-year old Australian's contract with Red Bull Racing is due by the 2010 season finale, and he knows that he has to do many things right next year in order to continue with the British outfit.

Our hope for 2010 has to be to go for the championships. There is only one more position that this team can get, so that is what we have to aim for. We need to keep improving,” said Webber in his BBC column.

However, he did admit he could have done a lot better this year, when mid-way through the season he was still in contention for the world title. Despite his incredible first win at the Nurburgring, he laid plenty of eggs in the upcoming races to eventually finish the season in 4th place.

I am disappointed that my championship bid faded, but as always you need to put a whole season together. We had a non-points scoring finish in Melbourne and a couple of ninth-place finishes in Valencia and Spa, where we got a drive-through penalty.

The biggest lesson I have learnt from this season is you need to cut out the little things. You need to make each session count and really put it together across the season. OK I am not 21, but I am not 40 either, so all of this will help me going forward into next year,” added the Australian driver.
