Since the BMW i3 is a revolutionary car in itself, we had a feeling that the production process would also be interesting, to say the least. Guess what? We were right. Don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for that Discovery Channel show: 'How its Made'.
This time, BMW created its own episode, showing us how the i3 is assembled at the Leipzig plant. The 3 videos below will take you through the entire process, from installing the batteries, up to the moment when the car is rolled out of the plant. They add up to about an hour, but it's one heck of an interesting one.

The i3 is actually the first vehicle in the world to be built from the ground up as an electric car. The whole idea behind it was to create an EV that would be usable inside big cities on a daily basis for our commutes.

The drivetrain is made up of an electric motor that develops 170 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque and a gearbox with only one gear that takes the car up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.2 seconds. All of this whilst weighing 1,195 kg (2,634 lbs) and having a range on full electric mode of up to 100 miles (160 km).
