Most of the people who have driven both the V8 and the V10 incarnations of the Audi R8 agree that the first is the one you can enjoy deeper, as it offers a better balance. Apparently, US aftermarket developer agrees with this, but has a bit of a different take on the matter. To put it shortly, they’ve strapped a supercharger to the 4.2-liter direct-injected V8, pushing the output all the way to 689 hp and 550 lb-ft (746 Nm) of torque.
APR has recently released the clip above, offering us a demonstration of what it feels like to play with such an extreme machines. Forget the donuts in the beginning, those are plain silly, focus on the gearshifts performed during the straight line session. The changes are so violent that the camera filming the dashboard indicators is seriously rocked no matter the gear.

Called APR Stage III+, the kit revolves around an Eaton TVS roots supercharger. To be more precise, this is called TVS1740 and, for all the geeks out there, we’ve added the output and the acceleration charts below. These allow a nice comparison with the stock version of the R8 V8.

Like we said, the kit places 689 lb-ft at the mercy of the driver’s right foot, but you’ll have to use race gas (104 octane) for that. Feed the APR R8 V8 with 98 octane juice and you’ll get 642 hp, while 95 octane fuel brings the output to a respectable 611 horses. The clip below also brings a dyno run, where you can see the difference the fuel makes. The experience is obviously sprinkled with a killer soundtrack.
