Warmer Weather Will Bring Higher Trade Prices for Convertibles

If you are tired of “enjoying” the lovely British weather at the wheel of your convertible, than we might have some good news for you. According to data from Glass’s, a UK vehicle valuation expert, the price of enjoying the open-top experience will soon go through the roof as the weather warms up, so just hold on a little longer before you sell your car at a nice premium.

According to the company, values will experience double-digit growth. The Telegraph reports that last year prices jumped from £6,900 to £8,000 between January and April, representing a 16 percent rise in just three quarters.

"From March we would expect to see the higher trade prices being reflected in higher forecourt prices as dealers attempt to protect, or increase, their trading margins,"
said Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at Glass's.

The increase was even greater in the premium segment, where prices jumped from £12,650 in January 2010 to £15,525 by April 2010, representing an increase of 23 per cent over the three months.

"The roof is set to come off values of convertibles in the coming months and this will apply to both soft- and hard-tops. Whilst manufacturers tend to try to promote the latter as cars for all-year round, general consensus is that the supply and demand patterns on hard-top models are virtually identical to those for soft-tops," Rushmore added.

Grass's also says that, on average, convertibles retain more of their original value than other market segments. After a period of three years, normal models, like the Peugeot 207CC, retain 42 percent of their value. Meanwhile, an MPV will keep only a third of its purchasing price when you want to sell it on.
