VW US Names New PR Manager

The North American division of Volkswagen announced today it has appointed a new manager, product communications. Kerry Christopher will report to Jill Bratina, vice president, Volkswagen Group corporate communications and Volkswagen brand communications.

Christopher will be responsible for all aspects of Volkswagen product communications in the U.S., mostly focusing on improving brand awareness through enhanced relationships with the media.

The newly appointed manager recently served as manager of public policy and Washington communications for General Motors in Washington, D.C., and has over 16 years of experience in automotive public relations.

He was assistant director of communications for Cadillac during the launch of the all-new SRX, XLR and CTS-V, and while working for Hyundai was responsible for the opening of their first U.S. assembly plant in Montgomery, Alabama.

said Jill Bratina, vice president, brand and corporate communications, Volkswagen Group of America. “With his depth of automotive communications experience, he is superbly qualified to continue to build enthusiasm for Volkswagen’s new and existing products.”

The Volkswagen Group posted an 18.1 percent increase in sales since the beginning of the year, or 2.94 million vehicles. For the month of May, the carmaker posted an increase of 8.6 percent, to 604,200 units. In the US, sales increased by 33.5 percent to 145,500 vehicles.

As for the model range, the Golf was the company's best-seller worldwide. The Golf (278,200 units sold) and the Polo (225,200 units sold) accounted almost for one in four Volkswagen vehicles sold (1.86 million).
