Volkswagen revealed the new Golf at last year's Paris Motor Show and hasn't looked back. The C-segment hatchback was and instant hit and just a few months, over 100,000 orders were received, despite there being an overlap with the older Golf VI.
We've now learned the compact car will also be available in the US. Autonews reports that the Golf's seventh incarnation will also be produced in North America, at VW's Mexico plant starting with the first quarter of 2014.
Growth in North America is important for VW's plans of world domination… sorry, growth. The German automaker hopes to become the biggest in the world by 2018.
The new Golf will be produced alongside the Beetle, Jetta and Jetta SportWagen. Hopefully, VW will make the move everybody wants to see and finally switches from 2.5-liter base engines to either a 1.6- or a 1.8-liter turbo. We wouldn't mind them offering a cheap subcompact either!
