Volvo Cars just announced that its Chengdu Plant in China will handle production duties of the marque’s newest eco-friendly model - the 2015 Volvo S60L T6 Twin Engine. The PHEV nameplate will be joining the XC90 T8 Twin Engine and V60 D5/6 Twin Engine.
Presented by the Swedish automaker as being the first Volvo-badged medium-sized premium plug-in hybrid to be manufactured in China, the model will make its world debut at the Shanghai auto show. In Volvo’s own words, the S60L T6 Twin Engine “offers 3 unique cars in 1 experience: Pure - Hybrid - Power.”

“We are delighted to signal the start of sales in China of our brand new S60L T6 Twin Engine. The Chinese consumer is ready for this product,” said Alain Visser, senior VP of Volvo marketing, sales and service.

Underneath the unmistakably Swedish body shell, we are dealt with a 2-liter turbo four-banger Drive-E mill that drives the front wheels with 238 horsepower and 350 Nm. The rear wheels are animated by a 50 kW electric motor, juiced from an 11.2 kWh li-ion battery.

Combined system output? 306 horsepower and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque with CO2 emission of just 49 grams per kilometer. Thanks to the capacity of the li-ion battery pack and a power-saving electric rear axle drive, the Volvo S60L T6 Twin Engine is capable of running 53 kilometers (33 miles) in pure EV mode.

For a compact executive sedan that boasts with all-wheel drive and a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run of 5.6 seconds, the eco-friendly Volvo on hand is a pretty impressive overall package all things considered.
