Volvo Following Engine Downsizing Plan

As the automotive world is making efforts to offer more efficient transportation solutions, engineers have to develop engines that offer a higher level of efficiency, with many carmakers becoming followers of the downsizing trend.

One of the companies that has expressed its intentions to follow the downsizing pathway is Volvo. Under its new Geely ownership, the company wants to make sure it offers a range of efficient powerplants that can attract new customers.

The company’s plan to introduce more frugal engines, starting with the 2013 range of vehicles remains on track, as autocar reports. The company is planning to use this eco philosophy for both petrol and diesel units. However, it is unclear if the company will also introduce the diesel offensive on the U.S. market.

The carmaker’s officials are currently considering the possibility of offering American customers the choice to acquire new oil-burners wearing the Volvo badge.

We are taking a deep look at whether we will introduce the diesels to the US. We haven’t decided yet,” Volvo Chief Executive Officer Stephan Jacoby was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

We’ll remind you that Volvo has already made steps towards a more efficient range of models, as the company refreshed its engine range for the 2011 model year. To be more precise, the 133 hp diesel unit was discontinued, with the company introducing a new 2.0 liter five-cylinder engine, as well as a 1.6 liter four-cylinder diesel that has an output of 113 hp.
