In today's urban environment, city commuters are looking for e-bikes that are not only nimble and easy to maneuver but also easy to carry and store. A new worthy contender in the lightweight e-bike arena is the Volt Lite, a mid-drive folding e-bike that has been meticulously handbuilt to offer sustainable and convenient rides.
Boasting a design that combines modern aesthetics, portability, and seamless integration of electric assistance, this new electric bike from the London-based bicycle maker has been specifically built for urban living. It is built around an aluminum frame, making it both sturdy and corrosion-resistant, and its striking lightweight profile is only matched by its portability and impressive range.

It is configured with a low-maintenance carbon belt drive, is powered by a mighty Bafang M820 central crank motor that offers 75 Nm (55.3 lb-ft) of torque and can be ordered with a 378Wh battery that promises 60 miles (96.5 km) of range.

Pedal-assist two-wheelers are a popular micro-mobility solution for city dwellers. While regular non-folding e-bikes are great for getting around town, commuting to work, and leisure rides, remarkably lightweight models that also have a folding mechanism, like the new Volt Lite, come in particularly handy for folks who also need to use public transport for a portion of their commutes or those who need to store it inside their city apartments.

Volt Lite tips the scales at just 37.5 pounds (17 kg) with a 252Wh removable battery and 39.7 pounds (18 kg) with the 378Wh unit, achieving an ideal balance between agility and portability. When folded down, it only measures 34 x 19.5 x 27.5 inches (86.36 x 49.53 x 69.85 cm), so owners will be able to effortlessly carry it up flights of stairs and store it in various settings.

"Finally an e-bike we can lift up above our heads without much effort," the company recently commented on a Facebook post.

The two halves of the hinged aluminum frame are held in place with magnets during riding. The Bafang mid-drive motor allows the bike to achieve 15.5 mph (25 kph) while riding on 20-inch wheels shod in puncture-resistant Schwalbe Big Ben tires.

The use of a Gates CDX Carbon Belt drive instead of a chain guarantees a noise-free ride, and the Shimano Nexus 3-speed hub gear with twist grip adds more flexibility to your rides. Stopping power is ensured by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, while front and rear LED lights enhance safety.

Cost-wise, the handbuilt Volt Lite electric bicycle starts at £2,899 or around $3,675 at today's exchange rates. The bad news is the bike is not yet available for purchase, but the company estimates it will begin selling it from July 2024. With its perfect blend of style, performance, and convenience, the Volt Lite will be a great choice for urban commuters looking for a lightweight, functional ride that also looks good.
