German automaker Volkswagen is preparing for the 2013 Worthersee show with yet another Golf GTI concept car. Nothing new so far, and since the new Design Vision GTI is a Golf on steroids, the Volfsburg-based manufacturer is right on its traditional track.
Stuffed with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 503 HP and up to 413 lb-ft of torque, this “wild racing GTI” concept has a top speed of 186 mph and can reach 62 mph from a standing start in about 3.9 seconds. As any VW enthusiast would expect, the Design Vision GTI sports te company’s DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive. While it’s not as powerful as the 641 HP GTI W12 concept introduced in 2007, the Design Vision is no slouch either. In fact, the company announced just last week that the new Worthersee showcar will be a “more realistic” iteration of the famous hatchback.

As far as the exterior design is concerned, the Design Vision GTI is meant “to give a spectacular glance into the future of the GTI”. Styled to look radical, the study set to be showcased at Worthersee is shorter, wider, and lower than a regular GTI, “breathing the charisma of a race car into the concept”.

"Our claim to be a global player is enhanced with our universal design language. A design that immediately communicates the brand's identity is central for all models that carry the VW logo, with elements that allow each model to be recognized as a true Volkswagen by its distinctive design," said VW head of design Klaus Bischoff.

Inside, the Design Vision GTI exhibits a familiar black, red and white color scheme, while carbon and alcantara inserts were fitted to “add to the race car feel”. The back seat was ditched to make room for an X-shaped cross member for improved overall stiffness.

Unfortunately, Volkswagen hasn’t released pictures with the actual car yet, so you’ll have to be happy with the renderings we got. But be sure to stick around for the first photos as Worthersee is about to open its doors.
