Have you ever had one of those dreams that give you cold sweats yet make absolutely no sense? Well, this Volkswagen Tiguan commercial is a lot like that, featuring the scariest alien you've ever seen that never kill you despite being given every opportunity.
We're talking about a commercial from Volkswagen UK, seemingly launched to coincide with the new Independence day movie, though never directly referencing it.

As for our uber-powerful, slime-covered creature from another universe, it kind of reminds us of the Wraith or Gorgon from the game Evolve. It's light on its feet... or tentacles and looks like it could suck your brain with a straw and find out how to infect the entire human race.

There are literally a hundred car commercials dedicated to opening trunks without using your hands. I like them because they are more truthful than those where the car parks itself. But that also means Volkswagen's Tiguan doesn't have a monopoly on kick-activated tailgates.

The alien monster takes advantage of this feature by popping open the Tiguan with its tail. Or rather it doesn't take advantage, because every time the juicy pieces of human are revealed, he doesn't notice them. So it's like those scary but stupid nightmares that make no sense.

What's more, there are ways in which the humans could have stopped the trunk from opening again, like locking it from the key fob. And if you have a remote opening trunk, chances are it does remote closing as well.

The Electric Powered Tailgate option has been available on other VW models for a few years. Its function is based on a sensor located under the rear bumper that detects when you wave your foot. Some owners have reported it's not working on their 2016 Tiguans, and it's not like you can't live without it, but the added convenience is nice when you have your hands full with shopping. Just make sure there aren't any alien invasions going on in your neighborhood.
