2018 BMW M5 Sedan Is Already Here... as a Rendering

While dinosaurs gradually went extinct, the cars their juices power are doing the opposite thing, evolving into monsters. Take the BMW M5, for example, a German sports saloon that's never been slow. However, the all-new generation will keep up with what we sometimes call supercars.

Our first taste of what's to come arrived a few hours ago in the form of the M550i xDrive. Using its 462 PS version of the 4.4-liter V8, it can get to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds.

All signs point towards the M5 having around 600 horsepower pushing all four wheels for the first time, so an official time of 3.5 seconds could actually seem conservative.

This is the second rendering related to the G30 5 Series reveal, after the Touring. X-Tomi has decided to go straight for the hardcore M5, which will come out about a year from now.

Upon looking at his rendering, you immediately realize that this won't seem like any other M car made until now. The G30's general design is quite similar to that of the 7 Series, giving the new M5 a squat grille, louvers on the front fenders and a general girthy appearance.

All that money BMW spent on the i projects will pay off here as well, as the M5 is going to use CFRP for its roof panel. Chassis engineers have been tasked with achieving a similar weight reduction to the E90-F80 transition. However, the standard all-wheel drive will add some of the kilos back on.

Still, pretty much every hardcore model in this segment has AWD, and BMW's might be the lightest. Power will go to the wheels only when it's needed, but that's pretty much all the time when you've got 600 horsepower under the hood and are out for Ferrari blood.

An ample array of toys should also give BMW M5 owners weeks of things to brag about. Everything from gesture controls to a drift model will be stuffed into a slightly larger yet lighter body.
