The Ford Transit is king of the commercial vehicle market in Britain, but the Germans are fighting back with the sixth generation of the iconic Transporter. Now available in RHD, this workhorse can be ordered from £17,745 (excluding VAT and other OTR charges).
Volkswagen UK states that the T6 panel van is available with the widest range of engines and transmissions ever. From launch, buyers will be given the option to order one of four 2.0-liter TDI Euro 5 engines with outputs of 84 PS, 102 PS, 140 PS and 180 PS and a 2-liter TDI Euro 6 with 102 PS.
All Transporter models are now fitted as standard with BlueMotion technology to help conserve fuel. These regenerative braking and Start/Stop systems, plus low rolling resistance tires. It's said that the 2.0 TDI Euro 6 model can return up to 47.9 mpg on the combined cycle (a 10.2 mpg improvement) and emits 153 g/km of CO2 (45 grams less). The standard 6-speed manual can be swapped for a more expensive 7-speed DSG.
Within the next 12 months, Volkswagen plans to introduce additional Euro 6 engines, as new regulations will come into effect. These include 150 PS and 204 PS powertrains.
Range-topping Transporter Highline models come with a sticker price of £21,315 (excluding VAT). They are equipped with a leather steering wheel, heated windscreen, automatic headlights, fog lights and 16-inch Clayton alloy wheels (17 Richmond alloys on T32 or 180PS engine).
