Volkswagen Ready for the Race of Champions

As the 2010 Race of Champions is about to debut, Volkswagen is ready to offer the world’s top racing drivers its eco-friendly Scirocco R-Cup race car.

We are talking about a vehicle that manages to offer a well balanced mix between delivering a high level of power and eco-friendly attributes. The car is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine that develops 275 hp. The powerplant runs on bio-CNG, which cuts CO2 emissions by 80 percent.

This’s year’s edition of the event returns to Germany for the first time in 21 years. The motorsport party will take place at the Dusseldorf Football Arena on November 27-28, featuring some of the top names in motorsport, with the drivers coming from all around the world.

The list of famous racers that will take part in the event includes Sebastian Loeb (seven-time World Rally Championship winner and three-time Race of Champions ‘Champion of Champions’), Andy Priaulx (three time WTCC champion), Jason Plato (double British Touring Car Championship winner), Alain Prost  (four-time Formula 1 world champion) and the German seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, as well as the recently-crowned 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

The 2010 season saw the eco-conscious Scirocco R-Cup complete its inaugural season as the partner series of the popular DTM.  The grids were made up of a wide range of racing talent throughout the year, with guest drives from a number of motorsport legends including Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell, Johnny Herbert, Carlos Sainz and Derek Bell,” VW said in a press release.
