Volkswagen Polo is Drive Car of the Year 2010

Volkswagen was awarded 'Drive Car of the Year 2010' for the Polo 77TSI. This is the second major award handed to the new Polo, as the car has begun its career with the most prestigious titles of all, ‘World Car of the Year 2010’.

Volkswagen claimed three other category wins in addition to the overall award: Best City Car - Volkswagen Polo 77TSI, Best Small Car - Volkswagen Golf 118TSI and Best Luxury Car under $60,000 - Volkswagen Passat CC 125TDI. The Golf has won the 'Best Small Car' award twice in a row, reaffirming its position as the benchmark in this segment. The Passat CC 125 TDI is also at its second win yet, again leading the way in its class to collect the ‘Best Luxury Car under $60,000’.

Anke Koeckler, Volkswagen Group Australia’s Managing Director, accepted the award on behalf of the company. “After our win last year with the Golf, I was excited to discover we have followed up on our success with the new Polo," said Koeckler.

Volkswagen’s designers and engineers continue to deliver great products and I look forward to sharing this great news with my colleagues at our head office in Wolfsburg."

The Polo is a fantastic product and will help us bring new customers to the brand and give them the chance to experience Volkswagen’s technology, design and engineering expertise in a very affordable package,” she added.

The Polo took six days and more than 20,000 km (approximately 12,400 miles) to convince Australia’s most experienced judges that it was worthy of the crown. In the end, it was chosen the car to best meet the Drive Car of the Year criteria, covering everything from value, practicality and environmental friendliness to how it drives, comfort and safety.
