With the Polo GTR, VW wanted to make something a bit like a smaller Golf GTI. And so, the car is practical and comfortable but not as fun as most of its competitors.
The fix to this problem will come in the form of the more hardcore Polo R, which will debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, which is in March. The news comes straight from VW’s head of R&D, Ulrich Hachenberg, ho offered this little tidbit of information to Autocar magazine.

It will reportedly be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with about 225 hp. This will make it a faster car than the Golf GTI, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of six seconds and a new top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph).

Hackenberg also confirmed they are working on a new Golf R with a "good, powerful 2.0-liter engine,” which should be ready by 2013 or 2014.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
