Spyshots: 2013 VW Polo R

Now that VW has a distinct R division, the hot German models (the cars, not the girls) are starting to arrive. For now, we shall focus on the Polo R, a car that was just shot by our team of spy photographers.

Yes, this is a Polo GTI body you see here, but under the skin we find bits and pieces that will go into the Polo R. You see, the business case for the car was built around the idea that it would be connected to VW’s WRC-fighter, which will also be based on the Polo.

Thus, the car is expected to use a downsized turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that delivers over 200 hp, which will be mated to a seven-speed DSG double clutch gearbox and should send the power to the road using an all-wheel-drive system.

The Polo range should receive a facelift in 2013 and this is when the R version will come to the market.
