German manufacturer Volkswagen has big plans for the Middle Eastern market, as it introduced this week in the region the local version of the Atlas SUV.
Called Teramont, just as in Russia and China, the new SUV is the first seven-seater Volkswagen available on the local market, and it is hoped it will charm customers in the region with the large interior space.

The Teramont measures 5,037 mm in length, 1, 979 mm in width and 1,768 mm in height. The luggage volume, depending on how the seats are arranged, can be anywhere in between 583 and 2,741 liters.

The SUV features Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity, Fender Premium Audio System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and the group’s Digital Cockpit.

The model was introduced for the first time as the Atlas in 2017 and as the biggest car manufactured by the brand in the United States. Just as for all the other markets, it will be produced for the Middle East in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In its first year on the market, the nameplate sold over 27,000 units. Not much when talking about a giant like Volkswagen, but after taking into account the fact that in these first months of 2018 the Atlas already sold over 30,000 models, it’s safe to assume the gamble paid off.

"Welcoming the Teramont to our market is a delight, as we are confident this car will be perfect for this location. Size matters, especially for families in this region and this is exactly what we offer now," said in a statement Andrew Savvas, the man in charge with VW’s affairs in the Middle East.

“This year we have been busy ramping up our SUV range and having this 7-seater means we have a complete line up in place and can offer the perfect car for every type of family."
