Volkswagen Group and its joint venture FAW-Volkswagen have opened a new vehicle production plant in Foshan, Southern China, the German automaker announced earlier this week.
The new facility, which is the Group’s 104th location worldwide, has a first-stage production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year, will employ 6,500 Chinese workers, and will build Volkswagen and Audi models, including the seventh-generation Golf and the A3, the latter to be added towards the end of the year.
“Volkswagen in China stands for both green mobility and sustainable growth. Our new plant in Foshan combines state-of-the-art technology with particularly efficient resource management," said Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group China. “This new plant creates 6,500 skilled jobs and will systematically foster new talent. We are thus laying the foundations for an innovative and sustainable automotive industry in Southern China."
