Volkswagen Group Opening Training Center in Argentina

Volkswagen is strengthening its ties with the academic world, as the company has signed a cooperation agreement on training, research and development with the Argentinean Ministry of Education.

The agreement was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, and the Minister of Education of Argentina, Dr. Alberto Sileoni, in the presence of the President of Argentina, Dr. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

This will see the National University of Technology, located in Pacheco, where VW runs a plant, set up courses of study in industrial engineering and technology and develop an academic center for mobility. Volkswagen is offering the university funds totaling $2.5 million for the development. The new facility will use the “ Center for Automotive Research and Development, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche” name.

"Education is the best investment. That is why Volkswagen is very aware of its special corporate and social responsibility to train young people," Dr. Winterkorn said.

"Volkswagen has been active in Argentina since 1980. Our plants in Pacheco and Cordoba have earned themselves a firm place in Volkswagen’s international production network. We have a lasting commitment to Argentina and are underscoring that with today’s agreement,” the executive added.

Volkswagen has a workforce of over 6,500 in Argentina, being the largest employer in the country’s automotive industry, also carrying out its own research and development activities in Argentina. The Group is the country’s market leader and has registered a 27 percent sales increase in the first eight months of the current year, compared to the same period of 2009, delivering a total of 86,900 cars to its Argentinean customers.
