Some (supercar) drivers say there's a special place in motoring hell for those who use their heavily modded Golfs to humiliate factory go-fast machines in front of large audiences.
We're not really sure about this and yet we're here to focus on the latest adventure of this kind, which sees a Mk2 Golf showing its posterior to an Audi R8.

Sure, we're talking about an R8 V8 here, not a V10 and one that belongs to the first generation of the machine, but seeing the 1980s Vee-Dub thrashing the sportscar still makes for an attention-worthy adventure.

Heck, the sheer sight of this Golf warming up its tires with a front-wheel-drive burnout is enough to determine many to belittle it. And no, this isn't one of those extreme DSG conversions (Boba Motoring, anybody?), which means the driver had to swap cogs himself.

That might sound easy for any experienced wheel bearer, but when you have around 600 horses to handle and the pressure of a race upon you, it's not that simple. The engine compartment of this Golf is occupied by a VR6 heart, with the infamous powerplant turning to an aggressive turbocharging setup to deliver the output mentioned above. In fact, the anti-lag system on this Volkswagen comes with a special side effect, ensuring nobody around missed the races won by the car.

If you want to talk figures, we'll mention the series of drag races the Golf engages in are quarter-mile adventures, with the Mk2 proving to be a high-11s car. Spoiler alert (no, not the aero kind): the R8 wasn't the only kind of Goliath defeated by the red David we have here.

P.S.: Since we're talking otherworldy Volkswagen Golfs, we'll remind you of the Mk4 we recently showed you, the one packing an Audi RS6-flavored twin-turbo V10 setup.
