It was only a rumor until now, but the German manufacturer Volkswagen finally confirmed through a press release that the 2011 Geneva Auto Show kicking off next week will host the introduction of the new Golf Cabriolet. The four-seater will thus be equipped with a soft top with an electro-hydraulic drive which will take only 9.5 seconds to open, working at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

The car will be offered as standard with LED rear lights like those on the GTI, while consumers looking for a meaner look can also order the optional bi-xenon headlights. Also standard are the roll-over bars, front airbags, side head/thorax airbags, knee airbag for the driver and ESP.

"The new Volkswagen’s styling follows that of its hard-top three-door counterpart, but it shows a high level of independence with a new rear section, lower profile roof line and more swept-back angle of its front windscreen frame,"
Volkswagen said in a press statement.

The car will be offered with six turbocharged direct-injection engines with power output ranging in between 105 hp (77 kW) and 210 hp (155 kW). Four gasoline units and one diesel will be also offered with Volkswagen's already popular DSG dual-clutch gearbox, while three units will be featuring the BlueMotion technology.

Those who really want a Golf Cabriolet can buy one as soon as tomorrow, with pricing in Germany starting at 23,625 Euros.
