As Volkswagen is getting ready for the global unveiling of its highly anticipated all-new 21st Century Beetle model, we thought we could afford the time to see a different kind of bug that was brought to our attention thanks to the Austrians at Carmaxx Classics, who haven’t given any pricing details at the moment.

What you can see in the adjacent images is not actually a Volkswagen Beetle, but a Porsche Boxster in disguise, which naturally gave it the ‘Bugster’ nickname. Specifically, we are talking about a 142 mph (229 km/h) Beetle on top of a Boxster chassis, drivetrain and running gear.

First, we must tell you that the vehicle has been officially registered as a Porsche Boxster S with a modified structure.

Taken separately, the 6-cylinder Boxster engine developing 270 horsepower at 6,250 rpm (by means of increasing performance manifold, exhaust and ECU tuning) is coupled with a 6 speed Boxster gearbox that enables the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.0 seconds. The powertrain is housed by a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle 1303 S body, while the frame is that of a 2000 Porsche Boxster S.

Aside from the parts that lends the so-called Bugster a special visual aspect (such as the fenders, running boards and rear bumper, all hand-made specials in their original appearance), the vehicle has suffered various other modifications.

Finished in a Lamborghini-specific Grigio Telesto Metallic color, the car comes with a curb weight of 1,098 kilos (2,421 lbs). The Bugster is 4,110mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,440mm high. Carmaxx Classics claims the car’s fuel consumption is of about 9 l/100km (26 mpg).
