Volkswagen had previously announced an UK price of GBP38,770 for its Golf R Cabriolet, but now the carmaker announced that it is cutting GBP5,600 of that value. The automaker also confirmed that the other European prices of the vehicle will drop by about the same value.
The initial UK pricing made the open-top Golf R more expensive than the entry-level Porsche Boxster. Six customers have already ordered the car and Volkswagen said it will refund the difference.
The new VW Golf R Cabriolet UK price, which sits at GBP33,170 has made the automaker revise its sales expectation, jumping from 20 to 160 units.
"The price and premise were wrong, and with the benefit of independent perspective we pushed very hard to get the pricing modified," said VW UK boss Robert Hazelwood, who also confirmed that the move will, in fact, include the entire European market.
