The central driving position was one of the trademarks of the McLaren F1, the fastest and most expensive supercar of its day. However, nowadays, it seems that you can get a similar experience for a lot less money, and in a slightly different type of sporty car - a convertible 911 Porsche.
The car, currently the only one in existence, is called the Centro 911, and it was built by Nigel Tuckey, at Trinity Motorsport, in Lima, Ohio. It took about one year to complete, and it features a naked carbon fiber dash, in the space where after the original dash was moved inward, it would have been left empty. The dash itself is all-stock, and working, and it was simply moved to the center of the car without any modifications to it whatsoever.
This particular example features Porsche’s PDK gearbox, but the builders say they are currently working on a second car, but this time it features a six-speed manual, so the modification can be operated on any style of gearbox. No word on pricing, but with an estimated time of 300 hours to complete the job, as well as the generous use of carbon fiber lead us to believe that it definitely isn’t cheap.
